  • Written by experts and researchers
  • Peer-reviewed by other experts
  • Includes extensive citations
  • Uses technical, formal language

Examples: Journal articles, research papers

  • Written by journalists and writers
  • Reviewed by editors
  • Few or no formal citations
  • Easy-to-understand language

Examples: Newspapers, magazines, blogs

Student Tip: For college papers, you usually need scholarly sources. When in doubt, ask your instructor!
