Common Chromebook Issues

The issues below are common questions Durham Tech Chromebook borrowers have about their devices.

Don't see your question listed? Email library@durhamtech.edu or give us a call.

  • "My Chromebook won't respond to any of my inputs. It's just a black screen."

Answer: Turn off the Chromebook completely. Try Holding the REFRESH KEY and POWER KEY for ten seconds. The Chromebook should restart after that, if not, press power again.

  • "I can't connect to my Wi-Fi at home"

Answer: See Google's Wi-Fi Instructions. Please note: Durham Tech cannot troubleshoot home Wi-Fi problems and we suggest contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP) if you continue to have issues connecting to your home internet.

Connecting to Campus Wi-fi

  • Students will see two network options while on campus, named DurhamTech and DurhamTech_Guest.
    • Select DurhamTech, go to Advanced Settings, and make sure your Wi-Fi settings look like the document below:

  • Note: Students log in to the DurhamTech network using their Durham Tech ID and password, the same information they use to login to Self Service, Sakai, and other Durham Tech services.
