How To Borrow, Renew, and Return Durham Tech Library Materials

Library Borrowing Guidelines

Students must present their current Durham Tech ID or photo ID and complete a registration form for a library account. Once the account is created, students have borrowing privileges at all three campus libraries. Students can present a photo ID and be looked up by their Student ID number for future checkouts.

Current students may also register for a library card online.

For Visitors

A visitor is anyone who is not currently enrolled at or employed by Durham Tech. Visitors aged 18 and older may use the upstairs library computers, but a library card is required to check out library materials. A photo ID is required for a Durham Tech library card.

Guests may print, but they must sign up for a Papercut account and pay cash at the desk. Visitors may use their Durham Tech library card to borrow up to two books for three weeks. 2 DVDs may be borrowed by visitors for 1 week.

Library patrons can renew online through our catalog. Click on "My Account" in the upper right corner to access your library account. Your pin is the last 4 numbers of your ID number or the last 4 digits of your phone number), visit the circulation desk in-person, or call the library (919-536-7200 ex.1631) if you have questions or need assistance.

Items must be returned to the circulation desk or placed in a dropbox outside the library. Technology cannot be returned in dropboxes and must be returned during our open business hours.

Items must be returned by the date stamped on the item's card/sticker. Items borrowed from one Durham Tech library may be returned to the library at another College location.

Durham Tech has 3 library locations, Main Campus, Orange County Campus, & Northern Durham Center.

Each library has its own collection, but staff can transport items upon request. Library materials should be returned before their due date and to an appropriate return location.

  • Library books can be returned at Main Campus, Orange County Campus, and our two library dropboxes on main campus.
  • Technology should always be returned to library staff during open business hours and should never be placed in a dropbox.
